    I'm certainly not an expert on the topic of "bypass." I have bth Hario V60 (plastic) and Kalita 185 (plastic)...as they seem to allow heat retention into my Hario Stainless Server. So...as to bypass...would this brewer tend to have maybe less bypass for us amateur home baristi? Thanks much, and nice Vid.

    Great review/testing! Love the authenticity and honesty. 👍✨ I have the ZP6, K-Ultra, J-Ultra, E-Pro, and the first precursor to the current Q series. I've not done a cross product shootout like you have but can confirm general trend/sentiment for ZP6 having great clarity and less body for filter brew coffee with J-Ultra having far more texture and body for espresso. I've not gotten the J-Ultra to produce filter brews that I enjoy.

    Stellar cinematography on this one. Really loved to see the different flow rates between the three dripping at the bottom. That Colombian sounds amazing. Ever since I tried a colombian coffee from Lot61 in Amsterdam I've been aiming for that amazing cup ever since. My lazy butt would probably change the filter two or three times then never change it again 🤣 but very interesting concept though :D Seems like the taste can change quite a bit so I guess trying all three for one coffee can be great to find the "perfect" cup for each. Thanks for sharing.

    Would have been great if they had been able to use a generic silicone O-ring.I get that the flat ring takes up less space but for longevity a more easily available option would have been better. And I have watched 2 other reviews now and Daddy got coffee actually had some very good points to how important it is to seat the paper in contact with the screen as he had many issues with drip time to start with and found that his filters was not touching. He also tested the dripper without any screen at all and found it worked perfectly as bottomless. So quite versatile with a few cons.

  • @rolfalm
    @rolfalm 2 дня назад

    pure garbage. i have one with changable battery, and to get those batteries in correctly seem to be a sort of random action, sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. it makes fine bubbles when it works for sure, but it takes bloody forever and therefor drains batterys very fast. you then have to goe through the process of changeing battery again. i have also got the doubble a batteries get stuck in it.

  • @philindeblanc

    Lot of effort, lot of time, but I wish you did a TDS test on these. It would help the viewers so much more, as you said each person tastes a bit diffrenet, and that would have been more objective, and perhaps even correlate your taste findings. But, much appreciated effort. Sadly doesnt help me much. Though, from your feedback, it sounds like people would lean to the SSP CS DLC

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing День назад

      Great suggestion thanks so much! 🙌 in my lived experience - Ive never gravitated towards using a TDS meter for my approach to brewing a better cup. If it tastes good - don't change a thing - if it doesn't taste good - than 'how' does it taste ... under or over extracted, or both, and look to resolve. You are 100% right in that - a TDS test across multiple shots correlating data would have given a better insight in to which Burr allows for a higher extraction.

    The price is a little steep for a manual brewer, but it is stainless steel so it's a cut-above plastic brewers.

  • @caffec
    @caffec 2 дня назад

    Main reason I'm interested in this brewer is for that stainless steel dual wall thermal stability + fast flow base. Recently though I've just been enjoying the simplicity of the V60 and April Brewer so after hearing about the extra attachments + silicone piece + potentially having to unscrew and dry after use has me on the fence. I think ill wait a bit longer to decide to get one but thanks for bringing those cons to light.

      it's more of a one pour and steep style brew. add a maximum of say 120ml+ then ad dcoffee - and eventually open the valve - nothing wrong with adding more water once drained either - jsut want to start with a good amount of water in this first step 👌

    Thank you, Josh, for this review. I think you’re one of the few RUclipsrs I follow that has tested both this grinder and the VS3 (and all its burrs), so I’m going to put you on the spot. A little background first. I have a J-MAX that I use for primarily for espresso, Pulsar, Aeropress and Moka. I’m looking for more acidity/clarity especially in the Pulsar/Aeropress and would like to not have to hand grind every espresso shot I pull! The DF54 is $300CAD and the VS3 is $400CAD (+$120CAD for the Hypernova Ultra, which I believe will give me the better clarity amongst VS3 burrs, that I’m looking for - correct me if I’m wrong). Am I the only one who’s annoyed I have to buy a second set of burrs for the Varia, rather than get it with the set I prefer, for a slightly cheaper price? But I digress. Next variable is a complete “who knows,” and that’s the question about DF54 burr upgrades: will there be any and what will they cost. Then there’s the Varia’s mixed reputation, even with the gen 2 for reliability. I don’t mind paying the upper end price for the Varia, if it gives me what I’m looking for. And I don’t mind saving money, either, if the DF54 is similar, or even very close. Advice?

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing 8 дней назад

      Hey, thanks so much 👌 Side by side comparison coming soon! So you're looking for more acidity/clarity especially in the Pulsar/Aeropress - and it be NOT a Hand Grinder. For the price - I'd either look at the Varia VS3 or consider the Fellow Ode Gen2 👌 Varia slighter better here. DF54 does not have the acidity/clarity you're after yet.

  • @philippkunze8651

    Thank you for that video! Would you rather recommend using the "classic" aluminum version with an induction plate in-between instead of this version to even out the on-off heating & brewing? Because this definitely sounds a little stressful, I don't wanna sit 4 minutes next to my pot checking everything goes alright.

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing 8 дней назад

      NO - tbh those induction plates are not a good choice. OK if you're stuck - though I wouldn't buy it along with a non-induction brewer. It's an unfortunate thing of Induction cookers that's unavoidable. I have ceramic at home - IF I had induction - I'd probably brew with something like an AeroPress or Flair Espresso Maker instead.
